IB Internal Assessment Feedback Checklist for Teachers

IA feedback needs to be specific enough for revision but flexible enough for subject differences. Use this checklist to keep comments focused on method, evidence, and communication.

IA feedback checklist

1. Research focus: Is the question or aim specific enough to guide the investigation?
2. Method: Does the student explain how data or evidence was gathered?
3. Analysis: Are findings interpreted rather than only displayed?
4. Evaluation: Does the student discuss limitations and their effect on the conclusion?
5. Communication: Does the structure make the investigation easy to follow?

Reusable IA feedback stems

• "Clarify how this method connects to the research question."
• "Explain what this data pattern suggests before moving to the next result."
• "Add evaluation of how this limitation affects the reliability of your conclusion."
• "Move this explanation closer to the table or figure it supports."

Teacher review note

If you use AI to draft IA feedback, check the subject and rubric source first. IA criteria vary by subject, so teacher-provided criteria should override generic feedback whenever the assignment requires it.
